The New York City luxury, yet street influenced brand that is , Donna Karan New York, or DKNY, is a brand ‘ born and inspired by life in the city’, as read on the Donna Karan spring/summer 2013 show notes by Vogue. A label that surely signifies the cosmopolitan essence of uptown New York, and the understated glamour of its down town street style. Serving up a colourful mix of sharp black and white tailoring, and taxi cab yellow that New York is known for, Karan ensured her Spring/Summer 2013 collection displayed the cool, classy and collected nature of the brand.
The perforated leather, structured blazers, sleeveless dresses, knee-length pencil skirts, graphic New York print T-Shirts, high-waisted floor skimming skirts beaming with thigh-high slits and swimsuits complete with mesh panelling captured the sport luxe look for the season. Bursts of metallic silver on shoes, bummer jackets and belt bags gave a modern twist to the eighties feel, while the denim shirts and city shorts, cropped anoraks, jeans and shirt dress’ firmly brought the collection back to the 21st century.
The accessories included spacious totes, rucksacks with metal hardware, leather-brimmed caps and visors. The footwear, with high top trainer come heels gave an edgy re-vamped demeanour to the sport look and the pointy toe and stiletto heel ensured that DKNY had brought the sexy right back to the Big Apple.
